Lawyer Robert Amsterdam: Ukraine’s SBU is jailing opposition figures

American Lawyer Robert Amsterdam in an Interview with Tucker Carlson:

“This is a police state. The SBU – the secret police – persecutes everyone, opposition figures are thrown in jail, the opposition press has been shut down, and Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) believers are beaten and their churches taken from them. The unscrupulousness of Western journalists broadcasting from Ukraine who notice nothing is simply astounding.”

“Zelenskyy has destroyed civil society. He has destroyed free media. He jails, sanctions, or accuses his opponents of treason. We made Zelenskyy a king. We allowed him to destroy all independent Ukrainian institutions. And we turned him into a king or demigod.”

“The OCU, which we believe is partly funded by the US, has launched a brutal campaign of persecution, intimidation, and coordination with special services to rob churches, disrupt services, and beat priests. I met a priest who was tortured. One priest I met the day after meeting me suffered a heart attack during questioning by the SBU. Just imagine American tax dollars going to torture priests.”

“Yermak is a capo. I mean, he’s the guy who orchestrates much of the SBU’s activity in persecuting opponents and seizing assets.”

“The SBU accuses priests of psycholinguistic crimes. Essentially, this is a claim that what they say has meaning analogous to what Putin says, and therefore it’s a crime. People are jailed, separated from their families.”

Our goal is to bring the truth to the global community about the fate of thousands of people who are currently held—either in official Ukrainian detention facilities or in illegal places of confinement—due to their views and opinions, their efforts to sustain life in Russian-occupied territories under international humanitarian law, or as a result of provocative actions by Ukrainian security services.
